Dr. Pantelis Natsiavas | Researcher, Head of eHealth Lab

Dr. Pantelis Natsiavas is an Engineer / Researcher (Grade C) at the Institute of Applied Biosciences of Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (INAB|CERTH), heading the eHealth Lab in Thessaloniki, Greece. He holds a PhD from Sorbonne University (Paris, France) and two MSc degrees and a Diploma of Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh). He has received a scholarship from the French Government and has been a visitor researcher for the LIMICS lab (Paris, France), while he has also worked as a Software Engineer with companies both located in Greece and abroad, providing services regarding software development and consulting for more than 10 years. Since 2013, he has been part of many European and national R&D projects on Medical Informatics, related with telemonitoring, health data security, drug safety and pharmacovigilance, focusing on the use of Knowledge Engineering approaches (e.g. the creation and use of ontological models and knowledge graphs). Currently, he is the Technical Coordinator of MyPal project (Horizon 2020 framework) and the “Hellenic registry of patients with chronic respiratory conditions and home mechanical ventilation support”, maintaining clinical data from 11 disparities across Greece. Finally, he is the Principal Investigator for the project PVClinical and the main contact for the EHDEN network’s National Node for Greece, on behalf of INAB|CERTH.

Dr. Christina Karamanidou | Post-doctoral Researcher

Christina Karamanidou is a post-doctoral researcher at the Institute of Applied Biosciences at CERTH (Center for Research and Technology Hellas), in Thessaloniki, Greece since 2016. Christina studied psychology at the University of Hull, UK then obtained a master’s degree in health psychology from the University of Bath, UK and completed her PhD at the health psychology unit, at King’s College London, UK. Following this, she worked at the Center for Behavioral Medicine at the School of Pharmacy in UCL investigating treatment beliefs in End Stage Renal Disease. Upon her return to Greece in 2008, she has acted as a part-time lecturer at the Department of Social and Educational Policy, the University of Peloponnese and a guest lecturer at the University of Athens and the National School of Public Health in Greece. In 2012, she received funding for post-doctoral research from the General Secretariat for Research and Technology for a project on the knowledge, attitudes and communication preferences of the Greek public with regards to cervical cancer and the HPV vaccine. Currently she leads the Psychology Lab of INAB|CERTH which coordinates projects such as the Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia Empowerment Program, in collaboration with the European Initiative for CLL (ERIC), the HIV Holistic Assessment Program investigating clinical data in conjunction with psychological characteristics such as illness perceptions and treatment beliefs in Greece and Cyprus. Finally, the MyPal project (Horizon 2020 framework) aiming to improve quality of life and empowerment in care via digital health interventions in collaboration with INAB’s eHealth Lab.

Vlasios Dimitriadis | Lead developer

Vlasios Dimitriadis is a Software Engineer at the eHealth Lab of the Institute of Applied Biosciences, Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (INAB|CERTH), in Thessaloniki.He has also worked with companies and organizations in Greece, providing services regarding software development and consulting. Since 2017, he has participated in several European and national R&D projects on Informatics, related with applications and services concerning automation, smart technologies and blockchain. Regarding Medical Informatics more specifically, he has been part of many research projects related with telemonitoring, drug safety and pharmacovigilance.

Christine Kakalou image
Christine Kakalou | PhD Student, Research Associate

Christine Kakalou is a Software Engineer and Research Associate at the Institute of Applied Biosciences, Center for Research and Technology Hellas (INAB|CERTH) in Thessaloniki, Greece since 2017. Christine holds a Diploma of Electrical and Computer Engineering and an MSc Degree in Medical Informatics, both from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She is currently a PhD Candidate with the Department of Informatics & Telecommunications at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, focusing on Natural Language Processing and Information Extraction from clinical notes. Since 2017, she has been part of the eHealth Lab and has been involved in multiple EU and national R&D projects related with health data security, digital interventions to support prevention, testing and linkage to care for HIV, hepatitis and other STIs, applications to improve drug safety and pharmacovigilance, and participatory design approaches for eHealth applications. Christine's research interests focus on medical text mining and social media analytics and visualisations to improve health literacy and Public Health monitoring.

Achilleas Chytas | Research Associate

Achilleas Chytas is an Engineer / Research Associate at the Institute of Applied Biosciences of Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (INAB|CERTH) in Thessaloniki, Greece. He has received a Diploma of Electrical and Computer Engineering as well as a MSc degree in Medical Informatics, both from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh). Since 2014 as a member of LoMI (Laboratory of Medical Informatics, AUTh), he has been part of many European and national R&D projects on Medical Informatics, related with telemonitoring, biomedical big data analytics, drug safety and pharmacovigilance focusing on signal processing and Knowledge Engineering. He has been collaborating with INAB|CERTH as late as 2015 while since 2020 he has been a member of the eHealth Lab.

Panos Bonotis | PhD student

Panos Bonotis is an informatics and telecommunications engineer, currently working as a Research Associate at the eHealth Lab of the Institute of Applied Biosciences at the Centre for Research and Development Hellas, where he is involved in multiple EU and nationally funded projects. He is also in the 2nd year of his Ph.D., focusing on user experience in eHealth services. In that role, he is responsible for the usability studies of the projects (MyPal, PVClinical, Take-A-Breath) undertaken by the eHealth lab, among other things.

Stella Dimitsaki | Research Associate

Stella Dimitsaki is a Data Scientist and Research Associate at the Institute of Applied Biosciences, Center for Research and Technology Hellas (INAB|CERTH) in Thessaloniki, Greece since 2020. She holds a BSs in Applied informatics from the University of Macedonia and a MSc in Data Science from International Hellenic University. Stella has been awarded with a PhD fellowship scholarship by the Sorbonne University. She is currently working as a Research Associate at the eHealth Lab, where she is involved in multiple projects. Stella's research interests focus on the application of Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) in biomedical science while she is also interested in the investigation of Ethical machine learning in healthcare.
